EMDR
THERAPY
MEETS
SALT OF
AWARENESS

Imagine your mind is like a vast, deep ocean, and all your life experiences are flowing through it. When something impactful or overwhelming happens, your brain gets shocked. It doesn't process that memory correctly. Instead of flowing naturally, that painful memory gets trapped at the bottom of your ocean like a jagged, sharp stone. Every time you get activated, you bump into that stone, and it hurts just as bad at the day it happened.

EMDR Therapy is like introducing that salt of the awareness to that sharp stone of a memory. Salt has two beautiful properties: it cleanses and it dissolves.

During EMDR, we use gentle eye movements or other bilateral movements to jumpstart your brain's natural healing system. This sends the warm, cleaning, "salt of awareness" flowing directly over that heavy, painful experience.

As we process the memory together, the concentrated awareness dissolves the sharp, distressing edges of the trauma. The memory doesn't disappear completely, because salt also preserves what is valuable, however the emotional sting, the heavy weight, and the panic fade away.

Eventually, the memory dissolves into the background of your ocean, leaving you with a healed wound, a calm mind, and the preserved wisdom of your own resilience.

EMDR FAQs

Is EMDR therapy safe?

Yes, EMDR is a non-invasive, evidence-based therapy. Michelle ensures a safe environment where you remain fully awake and in control. We focus heavily on grounding techniques during the preparation phase to ensure you feel supported throughout the processing stage.

How do I know if EMDR is right for me?

EMDR is highly effective for trauma, anxiety, and distressing life events. If you find yourself consistently bumped by "jagged stones" of memory or feeling stuck in old emotional patterns, EMDR could be a powerful tool for your healing journey.

What kind of outcomes can I expect?

Most clients experience a significant reduction in the emotional intensity of their memories. While the memories remain, they no longer trigger panic or deep distress, allowing you to move forward with wisdom, resilience, and a calm mind.
